Oyo Becomes Latest Las Vegas Casino to Charge for Parking

The Oyo is aware of your scheme — utilizing its complimentary garage and then crossing Tropicana Boulevard to try your luck at the MGM Grand – and it has ultimately put an end to it.

Oyo currently fees, through a parking app, $13 for a maximum of three hours. Following that, the fee is $18 for every 24-hour interval. In one week, a guest would incur a charge of $126, excluding service fees.

For now, though, the Oyo will continue to validate parking at its players club counter, as stated by Vital Vegas.

Oyo Vey!

The Oyo, situated a quarter mile east of the Strip, is just the most recent free-parking establishment to go. What was once a benefit for tourists in Las Vegas is rapidly turning into yet another remnant of the city's history.

For visitors, parking on the Las Vegas Strip remains free solely at Sahara, Treasure Island, Circus Circus, and Casino Royale. The Wynn provides complimentary parking for visitors for a maximum of three hours, while hotel guests enjoy unlimited parking.

Usually, parking at the Fashion Show Mall is also complimentary. Nonetheless, for special occasions, anticipate spending a fortune here. (For this weekend's F1 Grand Prix, the indoor shopping center's fee is $50-$80 per spot.)

Complimentary parking remains accessible at many Strip resorts for locals, but it's limited to the initial three hours and requires presentation of a valid Nevada driver’s license. Certain hotels provide it as a benefit of their rewards programs — but only after you “earn” your way to a specific status level.

Charge For Everyone

Unrestricted, free parking was a standard feature of the Strip from its inception until 2016. That year, MGM — which manages the Bellagio, Aria, Cosmopolitan, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Park MGM, New York-New York, Luxor, and Excalibur — became the first casino corporation to impose fees for the cherished Strip custom.

Caesars took a cue from MGM, imposing parking fees on all visitors at Caesars Palace, The Cromwell, Harrah’s, Horseshoe, Paris, Flamingo, Planet Hollywood, and Linq beginning in 2021.

It’s hard to fault the resorts adjacent to an MGM or Caesars location, like Oyo, for getting rid of their free parking. They’re merely attempting to prevent their available spaces from being occupied by visitors from nearby locations.

The tale of how you used to park at all Las Vegas Strip casinos for free will be one you can share with your grandchildren someday, just like the anecdotes about enjoying free drinks and getting your room complimentary after gambling $100.
